Shear
Plate : How does it have the effect in punching?
|
For those who are now using punching machine , I truly believe
that most of you are familiar with the word of "Shear Plate"
because shear plate is regarded as an important equipment of
NCT machine. When the problem arises such as incomplete cut-off
workpiece , we probably overlook the matter of Shear plate.
Thus, the problem may not be completely solved. To clearly illustrate
about Shear Plate, let's start with Shear Plate and how to replace
shear plate.
What
is Shear Plate?
Shear Plate is one of parts inside punching machine which serves
as punching pressure limitation not to exceed the Maximum Pressure
Power in order to prevent any other accessory damages such as
Striker.
How
can we know that the problem in Shear Plate?
Observing and checking shear plate condition may relatively
be difficult because shear plate is a part inside machine and
require to be firstly removed particular parts to see the shear
plate condition. However, I have a technique. Simply observe
from your workpiece if it is completely cut off from the material.
If shear plate breaks, the tooling will not moveable to punch
the material.
Causes
of damaged shear plate
Damaged shear plate concerns 2 main subjects. First, the mistake
in pressure power calculation causes the machine overstrike
from the provided standard which results in broken shear plate.
Second, degrees of punch doesn't match with die. Supposing RE
tooling in die is in 0o degree but Punch is in 90o. So when
the machine performs the punching work, inappropriate tooling
position degree damages the shear plate.
How
to observe the weight of Amada Punching Machine?
Before telling you the shear plate changing technique, I would
like to explain about the secret code of our Amada NCT machine
model.

This code is acceptable with
every Amada NCT series. -ARIES-245II
Maximum Pressure Power = 20 tons
X Axis = 50 inches Y Axis = 40 inches.
Remark : II means a model developed from ARIES-245
-ARIES-255
Maximum Pressure Power = 20 tons
X Axis = 50 inches Y Axis = 50 inches |
From what I have already mentioned to you and what is relevant
that I have to explain is Maximum Pressure Power of Machine.
For ARIES-245II and ARIES-255, both of them are equal in machine
weight that is 20 tons. Meaning that the pressure power in punching
should not be exceeded from the Maximum Pressure Power. During
punching the workpiece, if the pressure power is exceeded from
provided maximum pressure power, shear plate breaks and cannot
completely punch the workpiece.
For shear plate changing technique, I would like to take ARIES-245II
and ARIES-255 as the example because shear plate changing of
both models are quite similar.

Shear Plate Changing Technique of
ARIES-245II and ARIES-255
First of all, please shut down the machine and stop the inflowing
wind. Remove the striker cover and follow the steps below.
1. Remove both Bolts (No.19) and Block (No.18) which holds the
piston.
2. Remove all 4 bolts (No.17) and then take Block (No.16) and
Piston (No.20) out.
3. Slide Striker to the front.
4. Invert Block (No.3) and use braze bar knocking on Striker
(No.6), Shear Plate (No.11) and Backup Plate (No.10)
Remark : Normally , shear plate attaches with
striker as figure 2. If shear plate get damaged, it will be
separated into 2 parts like donut in figure 3.
5. Take Bolt (No.12) out.
6. Clean Block (No.3) And before composing , don't forget to
smear the grease inside the block (No.3) surface.
7. Change new shear plate and insert part ,which were removed
, into Block (No.3). Before composition, please smear the grease
into the part to facilitate in composition.
Caution : The most important thing in composition
is Backup Plate of which shape looks like donut. Inside the
cylinder , one side is taper and another is smooth as figure
below.
In composition, taper should be on the top. If it is incorrectly
composed and when punching exceeds maximum pressure power, shear
plate may not break but striker attached with shear plate may
be damaged. Hence, we should be careful when composing this
part.
8. Use the open end wrench to take at the tip of striker, then
tighten the bolt (No.12)
9. Slide Block No.3 in return.
10. Composing No.16 and No.20 into the machine. Then, loose
lock Bolt No.17. Tightening is not required in this process.
11. Composing Block (No.18) and lock at the piston. Loose Lock
Bolt (No.13) again.
12. Move Block (No.3) into the machine and tighten all bolts.
13. Test the machine run by pulling striker (No.16) in and out.
If the striker moves easily, that means your shear plate has
already changed successfully. Unless it moves easily, please
go back and follow the step no.10.
14. Start the machine with Mode "Manual" , pump the
inner and outer striker switch to check the movement. If striker
moves correctly, that means your machine now can work effectively.
Shear Plate seems to be the small matter that most of you overlook.
However, when it is damaged , the maintenance cost may be unforgettable
experience for you. In order to save your time, I would like
to suggest you to keep one more shear plate in reserve. |
